case.

It is however one to which I attach considerable

importance inasmuch as the murder was carried out by means of

a hired assassin. This form of vicarious murder is always

difficult to bring home to the instigator. The prosecution

have to rely largely on the tainted evidence of accomplices

and in this case the difficulties of the prosecution were

increased by the great wealth at the disposal of the accused

and his friends and the disappearance from the Colony of some

of the persons concerned.
